Realme 2 is a new installment from the last year’s most successful budget offering, the Realme 1. Oppo is the parent company to Realme founded by Sky Li on May 4, 2018, in Shenzhen, China. Realme 1 launched in India in May 2018. Featured a 6.0-inch FHD+ 18:9 display equipped with an MTK Helio P60 chipset. The camera on the rear and front had 13 MP & 8 MP sensors respectively and a 3410 mAh battery. Came with two storage configurations initially with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for ₹8,990, and a version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for ₹13,990.
The new offering has got improvements and additional features that were missing in the Realme 1. We shall take you to every aspect of the phone under different headings. So without any further adieu. Let’s begin.
The phone is 8.2 mm thick and weighs 168 grams. Thickness is a bit on the higher side but the weight is standard. On the back, you get the same glass panel and the famous diamond pattern design which makes it unique and attractive in the price category.
The size of the display has been increased to 6.2 inches but the resolutions have been dumped down to 720p which was quite shocking. But you get a notch on the display which is a commendable add on to this budget phone. But due to the notch, the display form factor remains the same as of the Realme 1. The panel produces 271 ppi as pixel density and is equipped with Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.
The smartphone comes preloaded with Color OS 5.1 which runs on top of Android Oreo 8.1. The OS features navigation gestures, native app locker, AI board, game space, clone Apps, AI album and other customization options.
The Realme 2 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset which is serious let down from the Realme 1’s Mediatek Helio P60 chipset. Also, the GPU has been downgraded from Mali G72MP3 GPU on the Realme 1 to Adreno 506. Though the processor is an Octo Core CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz you may experience slow down’s & serious gaming performance issues. The Realme 2 comes with two storage variants particularly 3GB/32GB & 4GB/64GB along with microSD card slot for expansion up to 256GB. It also comes with a rear fingerprint sensor which was missing from the Realme 1.
Realme 2 has got a dual camera setup having 13 MP & 2 MP sensors on the back along with 8 MP front-facing camera. The camera quality is for sure superior to that of the Realme 1. The rear camera comes with Bokeh mode, live AR sticker, AI beautification 2.0, HDR along with PDAF fast focusing. On the other hand, the front camera features AI facial unlock AI beautification 2.0, AR sticker and HDR. Video on the phone can be shot at 720p and 1080p at 30FPS which is great.
Connectivity & Other Features
The phone is packed with WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio, USB 2.0 and sports accelerometer, proximity, E-compass, gravity, light and fingerprint sensors. The phone also features dual VOLTE which means you can access VOLTE on both the sims card slots. It will be available in diamond black, diamond blue and diamond red colours to choose from.
The unit comes with non-removable 4230 mAh battery which apparently provides 15 hours of video playback, 18 hours of music, 10 hours of gaming and 18 hours of internet surfing. This upgrade from the Realme 1 has shown decent battery backup and amazing performance.
So these were some of the great features which came along with the Realme 2. For sure it’s an improvement over the last year’s Realme 2. But downgrading the display resolution and processor would hinder the performance for techies and may not affect the consumers in common. If you are looking for a budget-friendly smartphone, the Realme 2 is a sure shot choice to think upon. Realme 2 starts at Rs. 8990 and is exclusively sold on Flipkart.
